CCA launches brand new fully immersive Spanish language website

AURORA, Colo. The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Spanish language website.

The site, which went live Tuesday, (10/24)  features all of the same capabilities as its English language counterpart, and serves as the online home for Spanish speaking students and prospective students alike.

Students can enroll, find information on CCA’s programs, access campus services and find other helpful resources the same way they would on the English language site.

The ambitious project began in August with the goal of living up to CCA’s reputation as being the most diverse college in Colorado. Although other schools have portions of their websites available in both English and Spanish, CCA leadership made the bold decision to translate the entire website.

Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Alumni Engagement, Blair Lee led the project, saying CCA would not be doing justice to its federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI), if it did not give Spanish speaking students a complete site.

“There is a responsibility that comes with being federally designated as an HSI. As educators, we must stop asking, are students college ready, and rather is the college student ready?” Lee said.

To be designated an HSI, an institution must have 25% or higher total undergraduate Hispanic or Latino full-time equivalent student enrollment. CCA’s LatinX population is roughly 33.3%.

Dr. Mordecai Brownlee praised the work of the communications team’s efforts saying the college will better serve its student population with the launch of the new site.

“Our institution is committed to eliminating every barrier that has historically prevented our diverse community from pursuing credentials that lead to higher earnings and a better quality of life. CCA is leading the way in what we hope will become a national movement and a normalization of multi-language digital engagement for colleges nationwide.,” Dr. Brownlee said.

Elmer Hernandez (a CCA computer science major) has spent the last semester interning in the Communications Department as a Front End Developer spearheaded the intensive work of going page by page to ensure the Spanish translation was accurate, and that each page matched the English site.

Hernandez said he was proud to take on such a large project that would positively impact so many students.

“A completely immersive Spanish website like this is important because it eliminates any potential barriers that some of our student body may have when it comes to accessing college information or academic resources,” he said.

The creation of the full Spanish site marks the second time in less than a year that CCA has launched a major website overhaul. In April, the school launched a brand new website, ditching the clunky and difficult-to-use former site for a completely reimagined user experience.

This included the grueling work of scaling back thousands of unused and stray pages, in favor of a few hundred succinct and useful ones.

Lee’s vision for CCA’s online experience is built on the promise of giving students’ access to the content they are searching for in two clicks or less.

“Today’s students are unique. It’s crucial they have both the flexibility and ability to navigate our institution’s online platform with ease” Lee said.
