October is Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the achievements of the Community College of Aurora’s (CCA) Hispanic community. It is annually observed from September 15 to October 15 in the United States and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the nation’s achievements.
As a Federally Designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), CCA is committed every day to respecting and valuing the history, culture, and needs of our Hispanic and Latinx learners, as well as all CCA learners. CCA provides access to education, training and workforce development for these populations, and equipping learners for successful careers or transfers to four-year institutions not only enriches their futures but also bolsters the local economy.
“We are dedicated to creating pathways for Aurora’s Hispanic/Latinx population and the broader community to improve their economic standing and achieve greater social mobility,” said Angela Marquez, Ph.D., Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief of Staff. “By partnering with local businesses and industries, we seek to provide the education and skills necessary for success in today’s job market.”
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the college strives to reflect on its mission, celebrate diversity, and advocate for the rights and needs of Hispanic and Latinx communities.
“We are dedicated to supporting our learners through efforts that affirm their identities and celebrate their rich history and achievements,” Marquez added. “Our learners are remarkable, and their success in earning a degree or certificate from CCA will prepare them for their future careers and transform their lives, while also contributing to the overall prosperity of the City of Aurora.”
