Aurora Theater Anniversary Remembrance: 2023

More than a decade has passed since CCA lost four of its own members in a senseless tragedy that shocked the nation. On July 20, 2012, a gunman entered the Century Aurora 16 theater, and took the lives of 12 individuals, including CCA students Jonathan Blunk, Alexander “AJ” Boik, Micayla Medek and Rebecca Wingo. Fifty-eight others were injured in the shooting.

CCA honors and celebrates the memories of these individuals and recognizes the impact

their lives had on the college and its community. Our college and our community continue to mourn the lives lost by this senseless act of violence.

I encourage everyone to visit the 7/20 Foundation website (https://www.7-20memorial.org/) to learn ways to honor the victims and their families’ efforts to continue their memory.

For anyone who needs or would like support in processing their loss or dealing with grief, please remember that we have the wonderful resource of the Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (CSEAP).

This is a free and completely confidential counseling resources available to employees of the college.  Human Resources can be of assistance to you, or you can reach out directly to CSEAP at:  https://cseap.colorado.gov/.
