The program prepares students for successful transfer to a four-year institution to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Communication or a related field. The program develops students’ abilities to communicate effectively, ethically, and thoughtfully across personal, academic, professional, and public contexts. These in-demand skills are essential for educational attainment, civic engagement, and career success. Through the study of interpersonal communication, public speaking, media, and cultural communication, students learn to analyze messages critically, adapt communication to diverse audiences, and understand the social, cultural, and technological forces that shape human interaction in contemporary society. The Communication program emphasizes practical skill development alongside critical inquiry. Students build confidence as speakers and collaborators, strengthen their listening and argumentation skills, and learn to navigate communication in digital and mediated environments. These competencies support workforce readiness and upward socio-economic mobility in careers that value collaboration, leadership, persuasion, and ethical communication, including business, marketing, advertising, journalism, public relations, media, and social and human services.
