Aurora, CO – On Nov. 18, the Higher Learning Commission (the Commission) officially approved the Community College of Aurora (CCA) to participate in the Commission’s Notification Program for Additional Locations. That means CCA can notify the Commission when opening new campus locations within the U.S. instead of asking for approval beforehand. Joining the program is a new accreditation for CCA, demonstrating national recognition for the college’s commitment to growth in recent years.
We’re thrilled about this achievement because it reflects our shared commitment to excellence, equity, and growth,
said Kathryn Skulley, CCA’s Chief Analytics and Institutional Excellence Officer. This approval is more than a procedural step. It is a recognition of CCA’s strength, integrity, and readiness to expand educational access, advancing our mission to serve a diverse community through high-value instruction and support services.
CCA pursued the Notification Program for Additional Locations because opening new locations aligns with the college’s five-year strategic plan. Joining the program allows CCA to advance student equity by expanding access to academic and workforce programs. As the needs of the labor market change, CCA can adjust its programs and locations to reflect labor demands. Opportunities to expand CCA’s physical presence can also allow the college to strengthen its community partnerships and participate in regional development.
A Program for Future Expansion and Historic Stability
As a participant in the Notification Program for Additional Locations, CCA will notify the Commission any time the college plans to open, close, relocate or reclassify a location outside of the main CentreTech campus. CCA qualified for the program by demonstrating the college’s history of ensuring quality control of locations, clearly identified academic controls, regular evaluation of existing locations, and financial stability. CCA’s pattern of adequate faculty, facilities, resources and academic support systems also earned the accreditation.
The Commission also considered CCA’s long-term planning for future expansion before approving CCA’s participation in the program. Physical growth excelled in the past year, with the official opening of the new Center for Applied Science and Technology, and CCA’s expansion to Centennial with the Campus for Healthcare and First Responders. These projects and others earned CCA an award for forward-thinking innovations this fall.
