CCA and NJC Partnership Expands Crucial  Paramedic Training forUnderserved Area of Northeastern Colorado

AURORA, Colo. – The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its satellite paramedic training program at Northeastern Junior College (NJC). This collaborative initiative, a partnership under CCA’s accreditation and supervision, has been instrumental in providing paramedic training in northeastern Colorado for the first time in two decades.

This program was established to meet the pressing demand for paramedics in the region, with students from the area enrolling to gain essential training. With NJC now operating its own paramedic program, CCA is concluding its satellite program, setting NJC up for continued success in serving its community.

CCA President Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee said of the partnership, “The Colorado Community College System is united under the collective motto: Together, We Will. In this spirit, CCA proudly stands with NJC in advancing academic and workforce opportunities. When our institutions support one another, we unlock the true strength of the Power of 13, collaborating as partners of choice to expand access to education for all.”

NJC President, Mike White spoke on how this will impact the region, saying, “There is a critical shortage of paramedics in rural Colorado. The Community College of Aurora stepped up as invaluable partners, allowing us to lay the groundwork for an accredited paramedic program at Northeastern Junior College which will clearly impact this growing need. I am deeply indebted to Dr. Brownlee and his fantastic team for bringing a solution to a challenge that directly affects the health of Coloradans!”

Chair of Public Service, Beth Lattone said, “CCA was very proud to partner with NJC in establishing their new paramedic program to serve the educational and healthcare needs of the rural communities.”

Lisa Werts, Paramedic Program Director for NJC said, “I’m excited that this team is going to be the frontiers. I’m excited and honored to be a part of this.”

The Colorado Community College System comprises 13 colleges across the state. While each institution maintains its unique identity, they share a common vision, goals, and strategies to serve Colorado’s learners and communities. Their mission is to make education affordable, accessible, and transformative.

This partnership between CCA and NJC exemplifies that mission by expanding access to high-quality EMS education and equipping students with the skills needed to serve their communities effectively.

As NJC takes the reins on its own program, CCA remains committed to fostering partnerships that support workforce development across the state.
