AURORA, Colo. – The Community College of Aurora (CCA) has been awarded the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. This national honor recognizes U.S. colleges and universities demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. CCA will be featured in the November/December 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine. This is the first year CCA has been named a HEED Award recipient.
“Receiving the HEED Award is a testament to our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and reflects the collective efforts of CCA. It reminds us that our shared collaboration, diverse perspectives, and inclusive practices are the true driving forces behind our success,” said Dr. Angela Marquez, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Chief of Staff at CCA.
Insight Into Diversity selected CCA for its exemplary commitment to DEI across its campuses, including mentoring, teaching, research, hiring, promotion, recruitment, and retention. This extensive dedication prompted CCA’s selection for this national recognition.
“The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application, covering topics like student and employee recruitment and retention, leadership support for diversity, campus culture, climate, supplier diversity, and other aspects of campus inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We take a detailed approach to reviewing applications, looking for institutions where diversity and inclusion are truly embedded in daily campus work.”
CCA joins more than 100 institutions across the U.S. in receiving this award, including several other Colorado institutions, including, The Colorado College, Metropolitan State University of Denver and Pikes Peak State College.
