The Community College of Aurora (CCA) Foundation exceeded expectations last week at its annual Foundation luncheon, with generous donors raising more than $330,000 at the event. Local elected officials, community members, CCA alumni and more were on hand to support the Foundation’s largest fundraising effort. Foundation leaders highlighted many aspects of the luncheon, including:
- A total of $330,000 raised at the event, surpassing the original goal of $220,000.
- The total raised was more than $100,000 more than last year’s event.
- Civitas Resources, the event’s primary sponsor donated a paddle match amount of $60,000, matching up to that amount given by other attendees.
- Civitas original contribution was $15,000.
- Additional paddle raisers gave a total of $150,000.
- A total of 430 individuals attended the event.
CCA President Dr. Mordecai Brownlee spoke on the state of the college, highlighting how generous donations from the community help ensure the future success of its students, saying, “The historic success of our CCA Foundation Luncheon was a vote of confidence from our community stakeholders on the direction of our college and our unwavering commitment to advance social and economic mobility for our students. To our generous donors, know that your investment enables CCA to forge paths where our students’ dreams flourish and potential knows no bounds.”
Brian Mulnix, chair of the organizing committee praised the greater Aurora community’s ability to come together to support CCA and its students saying,“At the Luncheon we asked our guests to think about how they could contribute to student success; from volunteering your time, being a community advocate, or contributing financially. Our community did just that by helping us surpass our goal by over $100,000. This single event will have a lasting impact on the students of CCA.”
Money raised by the Foundation will be used to fund scholarships for CCA students. More than $788,000 in scholarships were awarded in 2022-2023, with 2,300 students receiving scholarships in the past five years.
