CCA Launches Bold Strategic Plan: BRAVE 2030

Aurora, Colo. — The Community College of Aurora (CCA) has launched its new five-year strategic plan, BRAVE 2030: Advancing Institutional Excellence Together, a bold and inclusive roadmap designed to elevate student success, academic innovation and community impact through 2030.

Rooted in the college’s mission to serve its diverse community through high-value instruction and support services, BRAVE 2030 outlines a visionary path forward with a focus on five strategic pillars: Student Excellence, Academic Excellence, Belonging Excellence, Operations Excellence and Community Excellence.

“BRAVE 2030 is more than just a strategic plan—it is a promise to our students, our faculty and staff, and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Mordecai I. Brownlee, President of the Community College of Aurora. “This plan reflects the collective voice of our institution and reaffirms our unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation. Together, we are charting a transformative path forward that empowers every learner to thrive.”

A Vision Built by the Community

The development of BRAVE 2030 was a deeply collaborative process, engaging over 950 participants across multiple phases of planning. From focus groups and listening sessions to strategic summits and open forums, students, faculty, staff and community members played a vital role in shaping the plan’s direction. In total, 34 events were facilitated across CCA’s campuses and virtually.

“This plan is truly community-built,” said Dr. Kathryn Skulley, Chief Analytics and Institutional Excellence Officer. “We listened, we collaborated, and we co-created a vision that reflects the voices and aspirations of our entire college.”

Strategic Pillars and Measurable Impact

Each of the five pillars includes specific commitments, key performance indicators (KPIs) and performance measures to ensure accountability and transparency. Highlights include:

  • Increasing first-year student retention
  • Ensuring students access support services
  • Embedding professional skills development in academic programs
  • Launching new community and industry partnerships
  • Achieving departmental participation in annual training

Implementation and Culture Change

CCA hosted a Fall Strategic Summit to officially unveil the plan and engage stakeholders through storytelling, visuals and feedback loops. Quarterly report-outs, dashboards and professional development aligned with strategic goals will ensure momentum and transparency. Most importantly, CCA will celebrate milestones and recognize individuals and teams who move the work forward. For more information about BRAVE 2030 or to get involved, visit www.ccaurora.edu.
